Sound Looks & Modifications

Section 1 - Car Stereo & System Install

 

1-1 Battery or batteries must be securely fastened and free of movement.

1-2 Battery or batteries must be upgraded to proper size for system demand.

1-3 Additional batteries must be installed if the system requires it.

1-4 Upgraded ground wire ( to the proper gauge ) from the battery to the body or frame of vehicle.

1-5 Upgraded charge lead ( to the proper gauge ) from the alternator to the battery or batteries.

1-6 Proper gauge power wire going from the battery or batteries to the amps. The wire must be ran correctly and safely using proper protection from any items that may cause damage. The wire must be secure and free of movement and properly terminated at the ends.

1-7 Proper power wire fusing must be used and rated high enough for system demands.

1-8 Upgraded Alternator or aftermarket and must be large enough to handle system demands.

1-9 Source unit must be properly installed and free of movement in any direction.

1-10 Aftermarket Source Unit installed.

1-11 Aftermarket HD Radio and/or Satellite Radio installed.

1-12 IPOD integration used in conjunction with source unit.

1-13 Aftermarket video monitor installed.

1-14 Any/all capacitors installed, secured and safe.

1-15 Aftermarket Amplifiers in the audio system must be secure and free of movement.

1-16 All aftermarket Amplifiers in the audio system must be fused.

1-17 All aftermarket Amplifiers must be properly grounded to the body or frame of vehicle.

1-18 All aftermarket Amplifiers must have the proper size power wire.

1-19 Aftermarket Mids/Highs amplifier(s) installed.

1-20 Aftermarket pair of speakers ( separates or co-axles ) installed.

1-21 Aftermarket ( not homemade ) distribution blocks installed.

1-22 Aftermarket Sub Amplifier installed.

1-23 Aftermarket Subwoofer installed.

1-24 Aftermarket Subwoofers in the system must be properly protected from possible damage.

1-25 Subwoofer Enclosure is secure and free of movement.

1-26 Trim Panels as well as the Enclosure ( or anything built into the vehicle ) must be completely finished out and covered in materials found throughout the vehicle ( IE: carpet/vinyl with no bare wood exposed )

1-27 Aftermarket Sound Dampening used in the vehicle.

 

Section 2 - Interior Modifications

 

2-1 All interior panels ( headliner, carpet, door panels, dash & seats ) must be in place.

2-2 Custom trim panels ( covering amp rack, enclosure, etc. )

2-3 Gaming system installed - Play Station, Nintendo, X-Box

2-4 Aftermarket Navigation system installed either in dash or window mount

2-5 Aftermarket Blue Tooth integration used in vehicle.

2-6 Interior lighting used in vehicle - Neon or LED lighting

 
Section 3 - Exterior and Engine Modifications
 

3-1 Cold Air Intake or Performance grade filter installed

3-2 Aftermarket suspension installed - Lifted or lowered

3-3 Aftermarket lighting such as HID lights or Euro tail lights installed

3-4 Under vehicle lighting such as neon or LED installed

3-5 Aftermarket window tint installed on at least 1/2 of the windows

3-6 Custom wheels and tires installed on vehicle

3-7 Custom exhaust or chrome exhaust tip installed

3-8 Aftermarket spoiler or wing installed

3-9 Custom paint or graphics on vehicle ( excluding stickers or bumper stickers )

3-10 Aftermarket body it and panels installed ( Z3 fenders, hood scoop, etc )

 
Section 4 - Sound Quality
 

4-1 Competitors must prove that the system does not have a turn on/off “pop” when the system is turned on/off either with the ignition key or the source button on the source unit.

4-2 Competitors must prove that there is no audible sound coming from the alternator through the audio system. System will be tested at 2000 RPMs.

4-3 Competitors must prove that their system doesn’t exhibit any unwanted noise from their audio system.

4-4 A judge will sit in the drivers side of the vehicle. The judge will provide his/her own test tracks to listen to. The music “height” must sound as though it is coming from between the dash and the rearview mirror across the entire dash. More points will be awarded the higher the sound appears to be.

4-5 A judge will listen to a selected music track to verify if the music “width” extends past the interior of the vehicle. If the sound is perceived to be coming from outside the side view mirrors, more points will be given. If the music sounds if it is inside the vehicle or nearer the center of the vehicle, less points will be given.

4-6 A judge will listen to a selected music track to verify if the music “depth” to extend in front of the listener towards the hood of the vehicle. The “deeper” the sound sounds like it is coming from, the more points will be given.

4-7 A judge will verify that the system balance controls of the source unit work correctly.

4-8 A judge will verify that the system fade controls of the source unit work correctly.

4-9 A judge will listen to a selected music track to verify if the audio system reproduces the upper High range represented by: Drummer’s high hat and cymbals

4-10 A judge will listen to a selected music track to verify if the audio system reproduces the Mid-Range represented by: Upper vocals, piano and guitar.

4-11 A judge will listen to a selected music track to verify if the audio system reproduces the Mid-Bass Range represented by: Lower vocals, snare drum.

4-12 A judge will listen to a selected music track to verify if the audio system reproduces the Sub-Bass Range represented by: Bass drum, pipe organ.

4-13 A judge will listen to a selected music track to verify if the overall music sounds as if its coming from an environment much larger than the confines of an automobile.

4-14 The system will be listened to for overall sound quality. If the system sound is enjoyable, more points will be given.

 
Section 5 - Creativity
 

5-1 Competitors will receive additional points for creative or “out of the box” installation of their source unit.

5-2 Competitors will receive additional points for creative or “out of the box” installation of their Mid / High speakers.

5-3 Competitors will receive additional points for creative or “out of the box” installation of their Sub Woofers and their enclosure.

5-4 Competitors will receive additional points for creative or “out of the box” installation of their Amplifiers or amp rack.

5-5 Competitors will receive additional points for having custom kick panels.

5-6 Competitors will receive additional points for having custom Amp Rack.

5-7 Competitors will receive additional points for having custom door panels.

5-8 Competitors will receive additional points for creative or “out of the box” installation of their Video system.

5-9 Competitors will receive additional points for anything creative or “out of the box” that’s not listed.

 
Section 6 - Security
 

6-1 A basic aftermarket functioning security system must be present. The judge will verify by locking/unlocking the vehicle and activating the alarm.

6-2 The competitor will receive points if they have a remote start system installed on their vehicle.

6-3 The competitor will receive points if they have installed glass breakage sensors on their vehicle.

6-4 The competitor will receive points if they have installed a motion sensor on their vehicle.

6-5 The competitor will receive points if they have installed a tilt sensor on their vehicle.

6-6 The competitor will receive points if they have installed a windows up and down feature on their vehicle.

 
Section 7 - Overall Vehicle
 

7-1 The audio system will be judged on overall system appearance. The audio system must not have any loose/unattached wires. All exposed wires must be protected. The system must be neat and installed properly.

7-2 The vehicle must be clean and free of debris. Stuff in the floor, dirt on the outside or vehicle simply not maintained will receive less points.

7-3 The components and accessories installed in/on the vehicle must not prevent the vehicle from being easily accessible. Fuses, spare tire and other items that might need access to should not be covered or disabled. However, one might receive additional creative points by allowing access to these items.

7-4 The competitor will receive additional points if they can show all the work done to the vehicle either through a photo album, video documentary or just having the vehicle open for people to view.

7-5 Competitors may earn one additional point for having the host shop store decal on their vehicle.

 
Section 8 - SPL
 
8-1 A competitors SPL will be measured to determine a competitors score for this section. The max is 150 dB. Standard “legal” position for sensor placement will be used.
